Access to the Rosetta Project Digital Language Archive (the "Archive") is provided at no cost to you and is intended for use in scholarship, research and educational purposes only. By accessing the Archive, you certify that your use will be noncommercial in nature and limited to purposes not infringing on Fair Use provisions under copyright law and other intellectual property statutes. No part of the material found in Archive maybe reproduced for commercial purposes or mirrored from another server without the express written permission of the Long Now Foundation. Content available in the Archive may be governed by local, national, and/or international laws and regulations, and your use of such content is solely at your own risk.

This terms of use agreement (the "Agreement") governs your use of the collection of language texts, descriptions, analytic materials, audio files and other digital content available through the Archive. By accessing the language materials the Archive, you acknowledge your acceptance of this Agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not access or use the langauge materials in the Archive.

Terms of Use for Archive Documents

Materials on this site are used in accordance with Fair Use provisions for copyrighted materials with permissions from specific copyright holders. The Rosetta Project Language Archive is being created through the generous contribution of copyrighted texts and original research material. In order to protect the copyright holders, and not punish their generosity, the following agreement needs to be read and understood by every user of the archive. We particularly ask for your thoughtfulness regarding use and dissemination of materials on the site that might be culturally or linguistically sensitive.

Our collection and dissemination efforts are careful to abide by and respect the rights of copyright holders and the provisions of Fair Use of copyrighted materials. Copyrighted materials reproduced here in excess of Fair Use provisions are used with special permissions explained in detail on the Copyrights and Permissions page and in no way extend to other republishing entities other than the Long Now Foundation.

By entering the Archive, you expressly certify that you will abide by the above conditions and all other applicable laws and regulations in connection with your use of the Archive.

Terms of Use for Audio and Video Recordings

The following are the terms governing the use of audio and video recordings in The Rosetta Project Digital Archive:

  • Materials in the Rosetta Project Digital Language Archive are intended for scholarship, research, and educational use only.
  • These recordings are provided for your personal use, and beyond giving access only to those persons directly associated with you or working for you, are not to be distributed to any third parties.
  • No part of the audio recordings may be published or reproduced.
  • No part of the audio recordings may be served or mirrored online without the express written permission of The Long Now Foundation.
  • Any work, published or unpublished, based on these recordings must acknowledge The Rosetta Project Digital Language Archive and the original depositor and/or contributing organization (see item details for information about attribution).

By opening and listening to the audio files in the Archive, you are agreeing to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not listen to, or use the recordings in the Archive.

You may make copies of portions of these documents for research or educational purposes free of charge and without further permission. Republication or commercial use of the Ethnologue (and its indexes) is expressly prohibited without the written consent of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, Inc. You may make links to these documents (with proper attribution), but you may not mirror (i.e. place copies of) these documents, in part or whole, on your site without permission of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, Inc.
